Monday special: Senerchia’s roast pork sandwich.

-1

The roast pork dinner at Senerchia's comes with potatoes and vegetable for $9.50.

The roast pork sandwich at Senerchia’s butcher shop has been our go-to Monday lunch for the last year. Just a block from Bayonne’s 34th Street lightrail station and opposite Judicke’s Bakery, it’s the closest we can find to DiNic’s or Defonte’s without going too far north or south. But while they know pork, they don’t know what to do with it after it’s on the roll. The basic sandwich is $6.50 with nothing but a splash of gravy on the bun. We prefer the pork padded with sweet and hot peppers and a slice or two of Provolone which raises the price to $7.50 – $8 depending who’s waiting on us. Another option is the dinner, (which makes a better lunch, whatever is left after the rush gets packed and left in the refrigeration case for the rest of the week and it doesn’t age well.) For $9.50 an overstuffed sandwich’s worth of pork is piled with green beans and carrots and roasted potatoes all best washed down with a bottle of Boylan’s Birch Beer.

Senerchia’s Meat & Deli is located at 762 Broadway at 34th Street in Bayonne.
