Sonic Drive-In coming to Bayonne in 2011.

Sonic, already in Totowa, Hasbrouck Hts and Highland Park, is planning its closest location to NYC yet.

Now that Bayonne’s floated a high-risk low-interest loan for the completion of Bayonne Crossing shopping center it’s no longer a mystery who would really sign leases to break ground on tainted soil. When the project was initially announced in 2007, Circuit City dropped as the project’s anchor before going bankrupt. But with Wal-Mart’s opening in the Crossing now certain, more chains like Lowe’s and Sleepy’s are forthcoming and all those customers have got to eat.

Now we know Longhorn has signed a lease to become the town’s first steakhouse, joining the Route 440’s highest tier of eateries – Ten East and Houlihan’s. And while Ruby Tuesday and Bayonne’s first freestanding Starbucks (there’s one in Stop & Shop) should be up next, Sonic Drive-In has officially signed a lease, bringing its Cherry Limeade Chillers closer to NYC than ever before, just across the maybe soon to be scrapped bridge from Staten Island.
